Mathematics and Statistics Tutoring Lab Coordinator

UIW Mission


Position Summary
The Mathematics and Statistics Tutoring Lab Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the tutoring lab operations, management, assessment, and reporting, to include development, implementation, and improvement of the math tutoring services program. The position works closely with the university Tutoring Services toward the goal of assisting and empowering students with homework completion, problem-solving, and test preparation. Position reports to the Department Chair of Mathematics and Statistics.

Position is currently vacant and in need of an immediate fill.

This position is considered a "Responsible Employee" under Title IX federal regulations and "Mandatory Reporter" under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to teach college-level mathematics courses primarily freshmen and sophomores thru Integral Calculus;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Strong organizational skills to supervise and manage the tutoring workforce and proven ability to work collaboratively with programs and student support services across campus;
  • Ability to work individually with a small group of tutors, students, and faculty;
  • A high level of patience and a sincere desire to help others;
  • Ability to assist students in learning mathematical and other related concepts;
  • Comfort with technology such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, Outlook, and the Internet;
  • Ability to successfully use technology related to online homework platforms and virtual tutoring platforms;
  • Ability to learn new applications quickly, including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications;
  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Bachelors Degree in Mathematics or Statistics, or other relevant field.

Required Work Experience
Teaching and/or tutoring experience in mathematics and statistics.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 18 graduate hours in Mathematics or Statistics;
  • Experience in supervising;
  • Teaching experience in higher education;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Experience facilitating online communication via email, learning management systems, and online homework platforms.

Work Hours
Mon to Fri 8am to 5pm with extended or early hours as needed to meet departmental goals.
