Communications Specialist/FLIGHT Mentor Center

UIW Mission


Position Summary
The FLIGHT Communications Specialsit is responsible for developing and overseeing internal and external messaging for FLIGHT Mentor Center activities in support and implementation of communication strategy. Specific responsibilities include trainings, outreach and programming. Position reports to the Director of the FLIGHT Mentor Center.

This is a Title V Grant with anticipated funding through September 30, 2026. This position may be shortened or extended based on funds availability and the needs of the department.

This position is considered a "Responsible Employee" under Title IX federal regulations and "Mandatory Reporter" under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to plan, develop, deploy and assess effective communication plans for students, parents, faculty, administration and general public.
  • Able to evaluate and utilize appropriate technology for communicating with internal and external populations.
  • Excellent knowledge of social networks such as Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Canva or Photoshop.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Eagerness to learn about new innovations and software.
  • Excellent verbal, written and technical communication skills.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft products.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Outstanding ability to work with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in handling multiple priorities, meeting deadlines and solving problems.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Bachelors Degree.



Required Work Experience
Two years of professional experience in marketing, social media, academic support, or other area relevant to this position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual.
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing or Social Media.
  • Highly experience using social media in marketing.
  • Experience with Banner and CANVAS environments.

Work Hours
Mon - Fri from 8am to 5pm with occasional extended hours to meet departmental goas.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to move across campus and in and out of buildings to attend meetings and events.
  • Ability to effectively use keyboard and computer for extended periods.
