About the Opportunity:
The Assistant Director of Peer Tutoring at the Peer Tutoring Program will assist, support, and advise the Director of the Peer Tutoring Program with all aspects of in-person and online tutoring operations, including program management, as well as propose inovation initiatives for the unit. The Assistant Director will develop, cultivate, and manage relationships between students, tutors, faculty, and advisors across the Departments/Programs and Colleges to assure the on-time delivery of high-quality tutoring assistance.

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Peer Tutoring and Innovation will have the opportunity to guide the development and growth of the peer tutoring program at Northeastern's main campus and the satellite campuses. In doing so, the Assistant Director will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to assess student tutoring needs across the colleges and departments

  • Create innovation initiatives to meet the student's tutoring needs by collaborating with the faculty across campuses.

  • Build strong and sustainable partnership with all stakeholders and serve as a resource for in-person and online tutoring assistance

  • Manage all aspects of the Tutoring Services including recruiting, selecting, training, hiring, and paying peer tutors, as well as perform duties assigned by the Director of the Peer Tutoring Program

  • Plan and deliver tutor training in accordance with the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Tutor Certification guidelines.

  • Create and facilitate workshops related to learning theory and practice.

  • Assist the Director with the development of in-person and online tutoring guidelines, best practices, and other tutor training relevant materials.

  • Collaborate with other Assistant Director f the Program as well as the other Assistant Directors and/or Department Tutoring Coordinators to make sure the policies, procedures, and standards are followed, and Program targets are met every semester.

  • Address challenging student situations related to tutoring assistance.

  • Support peer tutors by providing professional development and leadership opportunities.

  • Assist with targeted outreach efforts to connect students with appropriate tutoring resources to increase student learning outcomes.

  • Maintain records and collect data for assessment purposes.

  • Run assessment reports to evaluate performance for both peer tutors and the Tutoring Program.

  • Support office-wide and Universiy wide innovation initiatives and represent the Program internally and externally.

  • Promote the Program internally and externally by generating print/digital content, presenting at conferences and other venues, maintaining the Program website, and updating content as needed.

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's Degree is required. Three to five years of program management experience of in-person and online tutoring using in-person and online tutoring platforms, both synchronous and asynchronous, as well as familiarity with the standards for running academic assistance programs. The candidate must be an experienced professional, capable of independently leading program development and management, as well as performing a range of academic support and management functions working as a team.

    This position requires initiative, innovation, problem-solving skills, strong communication skills (verbally and in writing), ability to make informed decisions in time-sensitive situations, and the ability to make sound judgments. Able to demonstrate strong communication skills, the candidate should be able to network with departments and colleges across campus to better understand the tutoring climate and the tutoring needs for upcoming semesters. The candidate should be able to promote the program to all new students and encourage them to attend and apply. In time-sensitive situations, the candidate should be able to triage and manage hectic situations in a calm and effective manner. Working within limits of mandated Student Employment deadlines, the candidate should accurately and timely approve and complete payroll. The candidate should have an understanding and willingness to take the lead in creating and implementing new features and innovative services based on changes in student technological and academic needs and demands related to peer tutoring. Experience using Salesforce and Banner (preferred). Experience with procurement, Excel, event planning, and WordPress preferred.

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, or other related fields is preferred.

  • Running an in-person and online tutoring program, and being comfortable with the technology

  • Being able to troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to using in-person and online tutoring platforms

  • Familiarity with best practices and standards of both in-person and online tutoring programs

  • Applying management and program planning principles

  • Problem-solving complex programming issues

  • Serving a diverse student population across multiple campuses

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and experience working and leading student employees
