Position Description
Performs managerial work providing direction and guidance in setting and achieving goals and objectives; developing policies; reviewing guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and establishing and monitoring budgets. May plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Supervises the daily functions and maintenance of the First-Gen Peer Mentorship Program, including developing outreach and engagement campaigns, tracking methods, and data analysis for Peer Mentor/Mentee Program Efforts.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, & develops up to 40 Peer Mentors & oversees the planning, development, and facilitation of Peer Mentor Fall, Spring, & Continued Training.
  • Researches, proposes, and develops, student success and retention efforts in order to provide wrap around support for marginalized student communities. This includes supporting the Academic Pathways Initiatives and Student Academic Interventions efforts for First-Gen students.
  • Serves as Academic First Responder and work across the university to ensure FGC student concerns are being appropriately and timely addressed.
  • Coordinates the FGTMP fall/spring scholarship award cycle in collaboration with a scholarship review committee.
  • Leads the development, planning, and facilitation of special events including, but not limited to: Program Orientation, Peer Mentor Meet & Greets, & student success activities.
  • Supports university wide experiences including First-Gen Week, First-Gen Champions Institute, and the First-Gen Student Summit.
  • Represents First-Generation Transition and Mentoring Programs and the Division of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion at university and community outreach experiences, presentations, and tabling events.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in area of expertise or closely related area required. Three years of experience in planning, developing, or implementing programs/projects or research grants. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree plus two (2) years of direct college student advising, mentoring, engagement, and/ development experience
  • Masters degree in higher in higher education or related field plus one (1) year of direct college student advising, mentoring, engagement, and/ development experience
  • Experience working with mentorship programs and/or a comparable student success and retention focused program in a college or university setting
  • Experience working with diverse students including underrepresented, first-generation college, and/or marginalized student populations in a college or university setting
  • Experience in data collection, assessment, and reporting and the utilization of various technology such as: Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with budget management, prioritizing, expense reporting, and/or purchasing.
  • Experience within university CRM software such as EAB, Starfish, Banner, or Salesforce
