Position Summary:
Metropolitan State University of Denver's Center for Urban Education (CUE) is seeking Mentors and Tutors to lead enrichment learning activities in the MSU Denver After- School program at Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College. We work with middle and high school students in schools where the vast majority of youth are potential first generation college students. We have four primary goals: (1) Increase academic achievement in mathematics, reading, and writing; (2) Increase school participation and engagement; (3) help our youth become college and career ready; (4) Increase parent engagement in their children's educational journey. #LI-DNI



Duties/Responsibilities:
Now Hiring Mentors and Tutors who will :
Meet students at the school and go over their assignments or credit recovery needs and monitor their attendance and academic progress in Grade and Attendance Trackers Assist with the planning and facilitating of daily enrichment activities that maintain a supportive, safe and clean program environment Supervise and engage students in learning during program activities Work closely with the tutoring team to identify issues students are having and develop appropriate solutions Communicate with Central program staff and School Liaisons regularly Attend weekly staff meetings and supervisor check-in meetings Chaperone field trips and events as needed Other duties as assigned



Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to serving high-need urban youth and families Ability to build relationships with youth, fellow tutors and teachers in a community of learning Ability to engage and motivate students Able to implement culturally responsive instructional and pedagogical strategies aligned with policies, protocols, and practices of the schools, their teachers and staff Dependable, responsible, and exhibits professionalism and appropriate boundaries Flexibility to adapt to program modifications needed to continuously improve programming


Preferred Qualifications:
Special consideration for candidates who are bilingual in Spanish Special consideration for pre-service teaching experience and content knowledge in one or more of the following areas: math, language arts, science, and other academic content areas
