College Works Peer Mentor

Position Summary:
College Works Peer Mentors work with incoming students the summer before their freshman year and throughout their time at MSU Denver. Peer Mentors serve as role models for MSU Denver College Works participants and seek to provide peer coaching and create opportunities to further connect those students with the MSU Denver community. They assist with designing and presenting materials to students over the summer and provide support the entire time College Works participants are at MSU Denver. Peer Mentor team members are enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated, team players, and are of course proud to be a Roadrunner! This is a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of incoming MSU Denver students.


Duties/Responsibilities:
Caseload Management
Serve as a resource to MSU Denver students
Connect with students individually and in groups to assist with navigating MSU Denver and help them build campus connections.
Utilize University systems to ensure students are completing necessary tasks- financial aid completion, course registration, etc.
Outreach to a caseload of students via email, phone, and in-person.
Regularly track all student interactions.

Event Participation
Assist with planning events for College Works.
Prepare supplies, set-up, engage with students, run programming, and assist with clean-up for events on campus. Engage with students and run programming for virtual events.
Peer Mentors will have the opportunity to share about their journey to college, why they chose MSU Denver, and what their experience has been like in college with high school and current students.
Assist with and participate in events to recruit high school students for College Works participation.


Required Qualifications:
Must be dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, resourceful, flexible, organized, a willing learner, personable, and professional.
Have a desire to help other students acclimate and succeed at MSU Denver.
Have strong written and oral communication skills, including acute listening and solid interpersonal skills.
Be a degree seeking student currently enrolled at MSU Denver.
Have completed at least 45 or more credit hours.
Have completed one full semester at MSU Denver.
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5


Preferred Qualifications:
Previously participated in College Works summer program.
