Definition


Under administrative direction of the Dean of STEM & Learning Resources, supervise the Tutoring Center operations while developing and implementing comprehensive academic support services; direct Tutoring Center staff; oversee program budget; facilitate campus collaborations; coordinate program assessment; and perform related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills to effectively coordinate tutoring services across multiple campus locations while fostering an inclusive, equity-focused learning environment. They will demonstrate expertise in developing and implementing research-based academic support strategies that address the needs of historically underserved student populations, particularly within the Latinx community. Additionally, the ideal candidate will bring experience in cross-disciplinary collaboration, program assessment, and budget management to ensure the continuous improvement and sustainability of comprehensive academic support services.

Essential Duties


  • Provide leadership for Tutoring Center operations across Gilroy, Hollister, and online platforms.
  • Coordinate and supervise all tutoring services (drop-in, appointment-based, embedded, and online).
  • Develop and maintain tutor training curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain institution-wide academic support infrastructure, including professional learning for tutors, discipline faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain compliance with state mandates and implement best practices for academic support, including tutoring and learning assistance.
  • Provide learning spaces with necessary materials and technologies.
  • Design and implement learning activities and materials based on research-informed learning theories and innovations to support authentic learning.
  • Partner with Career and Academic Pathways (CAP) faculty /success teams to:
  • integrate classroom instruction with academic support services;
  • identify discipline-specific skills needed for student success;
  • create and implement just-in-time learning activities; and
  • provide adaptable embedded tutoring for historically challenging courses (low success/retention rates) with heavy computation-based or composition-based curriculum.
  • Collaborate with grants and initiatives (e.g., Title V, Student Equity and Achievement, Guided Pathways) to enhance student self-directed learning and support institutional success and retention goals.
  • Build partnerships with campus departments and lead multidisciplinary academic support initiatives.
  • Manage program budget, required reporting, and positive attendance records. Coordinates the documentation of students utilizing services including reports, files, and records for reporting purposes. provide budget recommendations to immediate supervisor or department chair for equipment, furniture, materials, software, supplies, or operational needs.
  • Manage program development, data collection/analysis, and impact assessment. Create and analyze data reports about student success (e.g., evaluation of tutoring sessions and PLOs).
  • Teach and develop and maintain curriculum for tutoring and learning assistance courses.
  • As 20% of load, teach courses in discipline area.


Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience


Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience

Any master's degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed; OR A master's degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, or other master's degree with emphasis in adult learning theory.
The college offers day, evening, and online classes, and faculty will be required to teach courses as assigned, which include dual enrollment, Inspiring Scholars, daytime, evening, hybrid, and online sections.

Illustrative Education and Experience

Meet the minimum qualifications to teach in a discipline taught at the college in which learning assistance is provided and two years of experience related to provision of academic support services to high-need students, plus demonstrated teaching experience in discipline area. Experience must demonstrate:
  • Leadership in academic support programs
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Program development and assessment
  • Budget management
  • Staff supervision

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Supervisory principles and practices including work planning, training, and direction
  • Learning center pedagogy and best practices
  • College peer tutor best practices
  • Professional learning approaches
  • Online academic support best practices
  • Learning assistance best practices (e.g., embedded tutoring, supplemental instruction, Writing Center pedagogy, or Peer-Assisted Learning)
  • Program budgeting and monitoring principles
  • Program development and assessment
  • Basic computer applications

Skills and Abilities:
